Quinta do Vale Do Meao 'Meandro' Finest Reserve Port (Portugal)
Quinta do Vale Do Meao 'Meandro' Finest Reserve Port (Portugal)
This high-quality Ruby Port is dark and concentrated, with fruit flavours underpinned by a hint of herbs and lovely spice. The sweetness is balanced by fresh acidity, so not too sticky. Perfect with dried fruit and a good cheeseboard!
In the easternmost part of the Douro, close to the Spanish border, we find Quinta do Vale Meão in the Douro Superior. This very famous quinta is the birthplace of Barca Velha, the best known and highly praised Portuguese wine. The quinta is owned by Francisco Javier de Olazabal, the great-great-grandson of Dona Antonia. The former director of the Porthuis Ferreira (until 1999) started producing wine from these exceptional vines with his son, oenologist Francisco de Olazabal y Almeida. and terroir. In 2000 they came on the market with a Vintage Port for the first time. Their Finest Ruby Reserve is of exceptionally high quality. Quinta do Vale Meão belongs to the top of Portugal and you can taste why it is!
The grape varieties used for this Finest Reserve Port are mainly Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão and the Tinta Amarela. This port has aged at least 4 years in large oak barrels of at least 20,000 liters. The style of this port is fruity, sweet. On the nose the port has red berries, dried fruit (cranberries) and a pepper. The color is deep dark red and in the mouth you can taste berries, cherries, chocolate and Aceto Balsamic vinegar.
Great as an aperitif, and as an accompaniment to old hard cheese or, for example, a chocolate cake with cherries.
Storage advice: Keep upright after opening, preferably in a cool dark place for 8-10 days.
