A fruity and generous red with lovely black cherry and cocoa spice flavours.

The bright nose of this wine smacks of summer puddings, crushed raspberries, and a faint creaminess. Red fruit notes on the palate are vibrant, and complimented by cocoa and a touch of aromatic five spize.

To make this blend, a small amount of white grape Viognier is blended with the Shiraz before introducing the Mourvedre. The grapes are sourced from growers in the Swaartland area of the Western cape. The soil is mainly loam, shale, and partially sandy on lower slopes. This enriches the grapes in this blend with many different qualities and nutrients.

The Swaartland climate is perfect for viticulture, with low rainfall in the summer months, tempered by cool afternoon breezes and the cold winters allowing the vines to rest and to build up the reserves. This blend is 70% Shiraz, from the Riebeek Valley vineyards co fermented with 27% Mourvèdre and 3% Viognier from the Kasteelberg slopes. . The result is a rich and dark wine, packed with fruit and chocolaty notes and a big savoury heart.

Give this gutsy red a try with rich and savoury meat dishes, or beany casseroles.
