Il Palagio Sister Moon (Italy)
Il Palagio Sister Moon (Italy)
Prepare to be stung! This is a very special wine from Il Palagio, a 350 hectare Tuscan estate owned by musician Sting and his wife Trudie Styler. Named after the song by Sting/The Police, this Tuscan superstar is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese.
The wine is aged in large oak, and pours a dense, ruby red in the glass, with garnet hues at the edges. Fermentation is followed by maturation on the fine lees for several months before the wine is finally drawn off. The resulting wine is full-bodied, producing a stained glass effect on the glass after swirling.
The nose of this wine reveals decadent berry fruit aromas, from blackcurrant, to blueberry, mulberry and blackberry. However, on the palate, the wine is savoury, with just 0.9g of residual sugar. The mouthfeel is velvety, with delectable fruit acidity.
Il Palagio estate has been farmed on since the 16th Century! When Sting and Trudie first came across the estate in 1999, it had fallen into a state of disrepair. They restored the estate, and assembled a team to maximise the natural qualities of the estate, now operating on a fully biodynamic basis. Grape varieties cultivated here include the classic Tuscan red grapes Sangiovese, Canaiolo & Colorino as well as the more internationally renowned Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot.
Enjoy this luxurious wine with vegetable couscous, beef meatballs, or goose breast.
