Yes, this iconic Rhône village makes white wine as well! Just as delicious and high in quality, with a lot less hype surrounding it in the UK market. This white Chateauneuf from Domaine de la Charbonnière is full-flavoured, elegant and complex. Expect to taste ripe orchard fruits, honeyed flowers, spice and a hint of toast. This wine transports you to balmy outdoor summer evenings instantly.
The blend is 40% Grenache Blanc, 20% Clairette and 40% Roussanne. The grape varieties come from 2 different but complementary terroirs: the sandy soil of "Mourre des Perdrix" and the clay and limestone soil of "Brusquières".
The Grenache and Roussanne grapes are aged 75% in stainless steel vats for seven months, with stirring on the lees. The other 25% is aged in new oak barrels for seven months, with regular batonnages. The Clairette stays 100% in stainless steel vats to retain fruit and freshness.
Try this with meaty tuna or smoked salmon, or a nutty, homemade pesto.
