Casa Ferreirinha 'Reserva Especial' 2014 (Portugal)
Casa Ferreirinha 'Reserva Especial' 2014 (Portugal)
This incredible fine wine is regarded as the 'Latour of the Douro'.
Many wines the world over are whimsically suffixed ‘Reserva’ or ‘Especial’. However, the Casa Ferreirinha ‘Reserva Especial’ really is a ‘special reserve’ in every sense of the two words, as it is essentially a declassified Barca-Velha. Made in the exact same way as Barca-Velha and with many of the hallmarks of Portugal’s ‘First Growth’, the ‘Reserva Especial’ represents tremendous value, for such an incredible fine wine.
Luís Sottomayor made the decision to declare 2014 ‘Reserva Especial’ in December 2022 and this is the 18th vintage of ‘Reserva Especial’ produced.
This has dark fruit flavours with black cherries, blackcurrants, mineral, and slate undertones. Medium to full body. Racy fine tannins. It’s chewy and driven. A blend of 42% touriga franca, 34% touriga nacional, 13% tinta roriz, and 11% tinto cao.
Drink after 2025.
