A medium-dry, 5-year-old Madeira from our favourite winemaker in the world. This is soft, yet full-flavoured, with dried fruit and orange notes. An excellent aperitif, but also wonderful with a cheeseboard, mushroom dishes, or a game terrine.
Barbeito are one of the smallest Madeira Wine producers, only founded in 1946 but have an extraordinary reputation. Ricardo de Freitas, the founder’s grandson took over in the ‘90’s, reinventing the traditional wines and techniques. He was the first to bottle Madeira wine without adding caramel and has also bottled from a single cask, which was once a traditional way.
We think this Madeira is both impressive and stunning.
GRAPE VARIETIES:80% Tinta Negra 20% Verdelho
VINEYARDS AND VINIFICATION:
Grapes from various quality vineyards located in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos and Prazeres. Grapes were pressed in a pneumatic press. Arresting of fermentation takes place at the desired degree of sweetness by adding vinic alcohol (96%).
Tinta Negra and Verdelho aged in French oak casks during 5 years by Canteiro method. For this blend, Barbeito selected wines from their warehouses with stable temperatures year round that originate a very well balanced wine in sugar and acidity.
SERVING & CELLARAGE
This wine was naturally aged in casks and bottled in its purest state. To show it at its best serve between 11/12oC and should be kept in a cool dry place. This wine was filtered and does not require decanting. It was bottled ready for drinking and will keep well several months after opening.
TASTING NOTES AND HARMONIES

Aromatic nose with notes of dried fruit, orange blossom and crystallized fruit. Full, round with an extreme softness. Long and mineral fresh finish. Excellent as an aperitif, with salted nuts, olives, tapas, consommé, and cheese.
