Wow. We are very privileged to have access to this incredibly rare 1981 Frasqueira, which has an incredible history.
The Madeira is an amber colour. The nose is fresh and deep, with notes of green pine nuts, figs, toasted walnuts, nutmeg and salted caramel. The wine has a lovely texture that envelops the entire palate. The acidity is pronounced, with a salty finish and a persistent citrus dryness.
This is excellent as an aperitif.
The wine is made from grapes grown in the vineyard of the house, the property of Mr. Manuel Eugénio Fernandes - known locally and affectionately as 'MEF' - in the parish of Seixal.
This is a blend of two wines aged in very different environments. 200 litres were used from the MEF family's canteiro warehouse, located near Seixal beach and characterised by an enormous acidity and salinity, but rather light-bodied. The remaining 110 litres of the blend were aged in the Barbeito warehouses, which were warmer and consequently had a greater structure and concentration, resulting in a wine that is much more balanced between acidity and sugar.
Service temperature recommended between 14/16oC. It will last and maintain in good condition several months once opened.
