This is the very last of the Magpie Estate wines – get it before it’s all gone! It’s a massively fruity Barossa blend, with both red and black fruit flavours. Expect aromas of smoked meat, cola, spice, and maybe even a touch of lavender. Also possessing some depth, complexity, and charming spice-box and black olive flavours.

The wine is a blend of Shiraz and Grenache, one of the great Australian blends, bringing together the lightness of the Grenache grape, with the body and structure of Shiraz. The wine hails from the Barossa Valley, which has a very warm climate, and often produces wines of intimidating richness. The Schnell, however, is juicy, warm, generous and easy-going.

Magpie Estate was born of a desire to bring some of the finest wine styles in the world down under. The winemakers, Rolf Binder and Noel Young take their inspiration from elegant wines from France’s Loire Valley, applying similar techniques in the Barossa. They aim for vibrancy, style and elegance in their wines, and reflect these aims with their own unique sense of humour. The bottles are decorated with beautiful, quirky designs, and a fair few of them take their names from the cult movies of Russ Meyers.

This is a fantastic wine to pair with heavy, smoky, or even spicy foods which have an emphasis on charred and roasted meat. Think barbecues, Mexican-style pulled pork, and slow roasted joints of beef.
